Compliance & HR
Managing Remote and Hybrid Teams
For: Managers & supervisors
By profession
For managers, team leaders and team members: build a team where people speak up early, learn from mistakes and do their best work.
For: Managers, team leaders and team members in any US workplace, including high-risk settings such as healthcare, aviation and public services
Learn what psychological safety really is, how to spot when people do not feel safe to speak and what leaders and peers do that builds or erodes it. You will practice responding to mistakes with just-culture principles, route concerns that carry legal protection, and build a small, specific team action plan you can start this week.
The course is for managers, team leaders and team members in offices, hospitals, hangars, call centers, field crews and hybrid teams. Examples range from a surgical count to a misrouted 311 call and a silent sprint review.
Psychological safety is linked in research to learning, information sharing and performance, and in high-risk work it can be the difference between a near miss and harm. This course separates the research from the hype, connects it to AHRQ patient safety culture measures and the Surgeon General's workplace well-being framework, and is honest about where culture ends and legal duties begin.

No federal law requires psychological safety by that name. However, federal laws protect specific kinds of speaking up, including opposing discrimination (Title VII), discussing working conditions with coworkers (NLRA Section 7) and reporting safety hazards (OSH Act Section 11(c)). The course explains these protections and when to involve HR or counsel.
Plan on about two hours, including eight short modules, interactive exercises, knowledge checks and a final assessment of 23 questions. You can stop and restart, and your progress is saved.
You need 75% on the final assessment. Questions are drawn from the course content and include workplace scenarios, so completing the modules is the best preparation. You can review feedback on each answer.
The course focuses on research-based practices and federal protections that apply across the US. State laws may add protections for whistleblowers and employees. Check your state's labor agency or ask HR about rules that apply to your workplace.
